Extensions 101

Quality lash extensions are nothing like the plastic clusters that are applied at nail shops for $20. Being able to properly apply individual lash extensions requires extensive amount of knowledge, skill, creative artistry and top of the line materials.

Extensions applied by untrained or careless lash techs can cause severe and sometimes permanent damage to your own natural lashes. Although they are much cheaper than their professionally applied counterparts, it is important to remember

The bitterness of poor quality lasts far longer than the sweetness of low price

Our certified and licensed lash stylist have dedicated themselves to the career of doing safe, proper lash extension services, use premium professional products and are setting the standard for safe and long lasting lashes.

Every person has a unique natural eyelash shedding cycle which lasts on average 90 days. Eyelashes continuously grow, shed and re-grow. Semi-permanent eyelash extensions, when applied correctly, do not hinder or speed up the shedding process. A single extension is applied to one natural hair and during the shedding process, both the extension and natural lash shed together painlessly. Hairs may be more noticeable during the shedding process because they will be bigger with the extension attached. If extensions are not properly applied, there will be a tugging, itching or burning sensation, usually resulting from clumped lashes. If multiple natural lashes are glued to one extension, this can cause hair to prematurely shed and pull out other attached hairs as well, which can be painful.

There are copious factors to consider. The materials, the direction in which the lashes are applied, would the client benefit from a 2D/3D Set, Russian Volume or will a classic set do the job?. Looks, curls, lengths, diameters- all can be overwhelming for a new or even a seasoned client who haven’t been educated by their former lash stylist.

It is important to discuss all of your options with your stylist to select the most appropriate set with your preferences and the health of your lashes in mind.

Bigger is not always better. Eyelash extensions come in a variety of lengths, degree of curl and thickness allowing for customized looks. Although the longer, more lush option is a request from most new clients, the requirements for such styles should be explained thoroughly before applying extensions. The natural lash has to be long and thick enough to hold the weight of the extension without causing premature breakage. A properly trained technician will create a look for each client that will best suite their natural lashes. The health of your lash is our primary concern and we will not jeopardize by using materials, lengths and curl patterns that your own lash will be unable to support.

The look, length, width of your lash extension along with the materials used will be determined by your (health history) the characteristic of your natural lashes and your specific preferences. No 2 set of lashes are the same.

Looks
  • Your lash stylist will be able to determine which options would work best for your eye and face structure.

  • Natural Set- mimics your own lash length and curl accentuating your natural features.

  • Open eye – good for downturned, almond or wide set eyes.

  • Using longer lashes in the middle will help open and balance the eye. Longer in the middle and shorter on the corners.

  • Doll eye- all over length and volume.

  • Cat eye- Good for hooded, monolid, close set eyes. Slightly longer lashes on the end will help draw the eye outward and create a balance. Longer on the outer corner and shorter on the inner.

CLASSICS : FULL SET & HALF SET

Classic extensions are single strands of syntetic fibers that are applied to each natural lash. Half set will extent every other natural lash, for a more subtle look and full set will extend every single suitable lash.

The amount of lashes will primarily depend on the overall health and number of your natural lashes. If your lid has 80 lashes, only 80 lashes will be applied. Some of the lashes can be damaged and are not suitable for extensions or must be lashed with a much thinner, shorter lash to give them a chance to recover.

 VOLUME

Volume lashing is an advance technique that involves using multiple strands of thinner extensions, composing them into a fan and applying it to each individual lash.

Volume sets can vary from natural to bold, dramatic look depending on how many strands are used in a fan.

Curl and Length

There are many different types of lash curl. J curl is almost straight, and D is the tighter, more dramatic curve, which Is used to create an open eye look. Your eye structure and the look you are going for will determine which curve (s) should be used.

Lash extensions come in 6mm-20mm long.

Deep set eyes can get away with loner lengths and straighter curl lashes, whereas some would benefit from a shorter, tighter curl set.

Adhesive

Only medical grade adhesive should be used to apply eyelash extensions. This special adhesive is safe for medical procedures and should only be used by trained professionals. This is not the same glue sold with eyelash strips or tabs in drug or beauty supply stores. Eyelash extensions should never be applied with anything but medical grade glue from a reputable eyelash extension distributor. Glues vary in strength (amount of time it takes to bond with the lash as well as bond time after it has been attached). The stronger the glue, the stronger the fumes, consequently the higher the likelihood of eye irritation afterwards. Only 3% of all people have a reaction to the glue. The occurrence is rare and should be immediately addressed if it does occur.

 Sensitive Glue

Sensitive glue is an option for those with sensitive eyes or allergies, although the longevity of your lashes will be reduced to 2 weeks. Like any other beauty service, eyelash extensions may not be for everyone. The number one goal is to maintain the health of the natural lashes. Clients should alert their technician if at any time during the service, they feel burning or discomfort.

Eyelash Q&A

What are the lashes made out of?

silk blend fibers. Which are the same fibers tooth brush hairs are made from. They are a synthetic fiber. They are heated and treated with formulations that give appearance and feel of mink or silks, faux mink or Siberian mink. They are lightweight and flexible.

What do you apply Lash Extensions with?

Medical grade adhesive. It never touches the skin.

If I am allergic to latex can I wear them?

Yes, there is no latex in the adhesive.

Can I go swimming?

Yes, water and swimming will not affect your lashes but when water is in your eyes. Blot them dry and avoid rubbing them.

How long do lash extensions last?

They will last until your natural lash sheds. Around 2-5 weeks depending on the set. You have approximately 150 follicles in your upper lash line and approximately 70 in your lower lash line. They grow and shed at different rates. Generally we shed about 3-5 lashes per day.

What is the maintenance?

Maintenance depends on the strength of the adhesive used and how you care for them at home. We recommend you get a fill every 2 to 3 weeks to keep them looking full and beautiful.

Will Extensions damage my own lashes?

They will not damage your eyelashes if they are applied correctly. Choosing the proper curl and diameter and using the right amount of adhesive prevents damage. You cannot self remove your lashes or pull them out as that will damage them. Keeping them cleaned daily is very important.

Can I use an eyelash curler on my Extensions?

No, there will be no need, because they come in different curls to give you the look you want without an eyelash curler. If you do use one it will cause damage to the extensions.

How Long does it take to apply a full set?

It can take up to 2 and a half hours.

How Should I sleep?

We recommend sleeping on your back. If you’re a side sleeper we recommend using a lash pillow or a Beauty Sleep Mask.

What is the difference between Classic and Volume?

Classic lashes are a one-to-one extension, applied to every lash. Volume extensions are handmade fans of 2 or more very thin lashes. Volume gives a more fluffy full appearance. They are more flexible and lightweight then classic lashes.

Can you trim extensions?

No.Extensions are tapered at the ends.
